Research Question Feedback

Do you want feedback on your research question? Go ahead and respond to this post and type in your question. Anyone who offers a thoughtful response to someone else's question will receive extra credit.

Responses don't have to be long; they just need to help the writer.

Things to consider:
--> Does the question address the prompt?
--> Is the question specific enough to address well in 4-5 pages?
--> Will the question lead to a debatable argument (or will it simply provide a list of answers--you don't want a list!)

Due: Before our next class.

  1. So here is my question: "What factors in society perpetuate the idea that todays whites should be held accountable/responsible for the suffering of todays African Americans who claim that their lives are forever handicapped, because they are descendants of those Africans who were taken and shipped to this country to live as slaves?" This is in response to Hamblin's article for prompt number 2. I am having a real hard time finding sources to answer my question, so if anyone could toss me some tips that would be great.

  2. Your question sounds awesome! However, make sure that, while you're writing this paper, you don't wander off prompt. This question is so strong that there are many places it could lead you to, and going off-topic is a big no-no. Other than that, it looks good. As far as looking for sources goes, my recommendation is always google.com. As long as you're specific enough it will probably work wonders.

  3. Okay, now I need help. My research question and thesis are contained within the following:

"Ken Hamblin, in “The Black Avenger”, a slice from his book "Pick A Better Country: An Unassuming Colored Guy Speaks His Mind About America", raises many a point about African Americans and their way of life. One point that he touched upon regularly, however, was the fact that many African Americans still consider themselves ‘crippled’, whether they verbally (or even intentionally) divulge that fact or not, or even use the same analogy. But why is this so? Haven’t they accomplished enough to keep them satisfied, or enough so that they might see themselves as equal to white folk? Although some people might argue that they’ve got more of a right to complain than they have not to, I’d have to disagree. Just in politics alone there are so many things that have happened in recent history to completely nullify the ‘crippled black man’ myth.

Any suggestions? Not focused enough? Add something? Cut something? Help!

  4. For Thomas Waite.. here's a source you can look into: White Guilt: How Blacks and Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Era. Written by Shelby Steele. Hope this helps!
